Nazaré the free font inspired in the Portuguese town with the same name where the big waves rule. As a Portuguese I was quite happy to discover this free font created by an Hungarian who really catched the nature feeling of this place. This small fisherman’s town for years was unknown to the rest of the world, until the world famous surfer Garrett McNamara came attracted by one of the biggest waves in the world.

In November 2011, chasing storms and tracking swells paid off for McNamara as he entered the Guinness World Records. He caught a 78 foot (24 m) wave in Nazaré, Portugal after being towed into the wave from a jet ski riding a 6’0 Dick Brewer Tow Board.

In January 2013, McNamara broke his own world record by surfing an estimated 100-foot (30 m) wave. He also did this off the coast of Nazaré, Portugal.

Nowadays Nazaré is a world respected surf spot specially for the big wave surfers, David Szebenyi inspired on this town created this font. It’s condensed, all in caps it comes in two versions for lower and uppercase, made with hand drawn lines, some round forms and as the author refers, a bit of tribal touch.

If you like this, don’t forget to give feedback to David Szebenyi and check as well his portfolio.
